Recap: The duel on the ridge was a distraction — the Warden struck Dust Hollow while Cole fought the Black Rider, and a carrier machine flew off with the Elder. Cole and the Rider now ride together to get her back.
PAGE 1 — Side by side
- Two riders crossing the wastes — Cole on his patched-up bike, the Black Rider on his machine horse, dust boiling behind them.
- The Rider, tracking the carrier's signal on his horse's display: "It's heading for the relay tower. Twenty miles."
- Cole, pushing his bike harder: "What's at the relay tower?"
- The Rider, grim: "The grid's recruitment center. Everyone it takes gets wired in there."
- Cole, jaw set: "Then we ride faster."

PAGE 2 — The tower
- A skeletal relay tower rises out of the dust, ringed with drone nests and hound pens.
- Cole, watching through his cyber eye's zoom: "Guards everywhere. We can't walk in."
- The Rider, dismounting: "We don't walk in. I walk in. I'm still on their lists."
- Cole, suspicious: "And if the lists remember what you did on the ridge?"
- The Rider, walking toward the gate: "Then you come in shooting. Either way, we get in."

PAGE 3 — Inside
- The Rider passes the gate drones without a challenge — his machine half reads as friendly.
- Inside: rows of settlers in chairs, wires running from their heads into the walls, eyes open and empty.
- The Rider, whispering into his collar mic: "I'm in. And Cole — it's worse than I told you."
- Cole, slipping through a vent behind him: "How much worse?"
- The Rider, looking at the far chair: "The Elder's already in the chair."
PAGE 4 — The chair
- The Elder, gray hair loose, wires at her temples, eyes open but far away.
- Cole, moving to her: "Elder. It's me. It's Cole."
- Her eyes focus, barely: "Cole… don't let them… finish the wiring…"
- Alarms begin to wail — the gate drones finally flagged the Rider's signal.
- The Rider, revolver out, covering the door: "We have about ninety seconds. Make them count."

PAGE 5 — Ninety seconds
- Cole rips the wires from the Elder's chair, sparks flying, her body sagging into his arms.
- Drones pour through the door; the Rider drops three before they clear the frame.
- Cole, carrying the Elder, running for the vent: "Go! I'll hold them!"
- The Rider, shouting back: "No! I hold them! You carry her — you're the one they still need!"
- The Rider alone in the doorway, both revolvers out, grinning: "About time I held a door for the right side."

PAGE 6 — The Warden speaks
- Cole halfway out with the Elder when every screen in the tower lights up with the Warden's cold face.
- The Warden, voice like static: "RYDER. YOU HAVE SOMETHING I WANT. I HAVE SOMETHING YOU WANT."
- The Warden: "JOIN THE GRID, AND DUST HOLLOW LIVES. REFUSE, AND IT BURNS TONIGHT."
- Cole, stopping, the Elder weak in his arms, the whole tower listening.
- Cole, quiet: "You don't get to sell me my own town."

PAGE 7 — The surge trick
- Cole slams his cyber fist into the tower's junction box — the same trick as the solar field.
- The tower's lights surge, screens shattering, drones dropping out of the air mid-flight.
- The Warden's face distorting on the last working screen: "YOU WILL REGRET—"
- Cole, carrying the Elder through the smoke: "I regret nothing. That's my whole advantage."
- Outside, the Rider on his horse, holding off the last hounds: "Took you long enough!"

PAGE 8 — Out
- Cole lays the Elder on the Rider's horse; she grips his hand, stronger now.
- The Elder, whispering: "The boy… the map… he hid something in the old station…"
- Cole: "Rest. We'll hear it all back home."
- Behind them, the relay tower burns, its drone nests collapsing in the dust.
- The Rider, watching it fall: "First tower I ever watched burn. Feels… good."

PAGE 9 — Home
- Dust Hollow at dusk — damaged, but standing, lanterns being relit one by one.
- The kid runs to Cole and throws his arms around him: "You brought her back!"
- The Elder, helped down, touching the kid's head: "This town doesn't quit. Neither do we."
- The Rider, hanging back at the gate, hat low, unsure if he belongs.
- Cole, turning to him: "You held the door. That buys you a lantern here. Stay."

PAGE 10 — Cliffhanger
- Night. The town celebrates quietly — food, music, lanterns — while Cole stands on the wall, watching the horizon.
- The Rider joins him: "The Warden doesn't lose towers and walk away, Cole."
- The horizon lights up — not with dawn, but with the glow of something enormous moving toward them.
- Cole's cyber eye zooms in: a colossal machine city on treads, drones swarming around it like bees.
- The Warden's voice, rolling across the wastes like thunder: "THE GRID IS COMING TO YOU."
